Arizona Cardinals: The good, the bad, the ugly
Despite Fitzgerald’s terrific and historic grab, Garoppolo led New England back down the field, capping off a 61-yard, six-minute drive with a field goal to give the Patriots a 23-21 lead with 3:44 to play. Cairo Santos kicked a 33-yard field goal a few minutes later, and after forcing a three-and-out, Spencer Ware finished off a four-play drive with a touchdown plunge to knot it at 27.

Bengals 23, Jets 22: Mike Nugent kicked a 47-yard field goal with 54 seconds left, lifting Cincinnati to the win.
Jimmy Garappolo, a third-year pro in his first start, completed 24 of 33 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.
-Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who caught two touchdown passes against the Patriots to give him 100 for his career, responded to internet reports about him allegedly telling close friends that he expects this to be his last season in the NFL.
The last time the New England Patriots were as heavy an underdog as they were heading into Sunday’s season-opening game at the Arizona Cardinals (who were 7-point favorites) it was back prior to Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002, a game in which the St. Louis Rams were favored by 14 points.
Garoppolo is starting New England’s first four games with Tom Brady’s Deflategate suspension. Matt Barkley completed 20 of 29 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns while Carson Palmer didn’t play.
Garoppolo put the finishing touches on the drive with a three-yard run to set up what proved to be the game-winning field goal.
Seahawks 12, Dolphins 10: In Seattle, hobbled by an ankle injury, Russell Wilson pulled off another fourth-quarter comeback, throwing a 2-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin with 31 seconds left.
NOTES: Cardinals rookie CB Brandon Williams, when asked if he ever dreamed of starting in the National Football League in Week 1 just a year removed from being a running back: “Of course, why wouldn’t I?”
Before the game, the Chiefs released a statement which read: “After having a number of thoughtful discussions as a group regarding our representation during the national anthem, we decided collectively to lock arms as a sign of solidarity”. Lead the New England Patriots to a late score and victory. He also had four receptions for 43 yards, while his 45-yard run and a couple of his shorter runs were the catalyst that injected life into Arizona’s offense in the second half.
“I am really proud of our team tonight”, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. “He is a guy that can change the complexion of the game in one touch”. I suspect that confidence is of no concern here, I think it was more of the fluke variety, but that’s not really comforting to hear after a loss like this.
Yes, Garoppolo played well during the Patriots’ 23-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium, Belichick conceded.
“We just didn’t execute”, Minter said. If the Patriots continue to play like they did this Sunday, they should walk into that game with a lot of confidence.
Not only did he have the lead against the Cardinals in the third quarter, he may be auditioning to replace Brady with his perplexing passing abilities.
Hogan beat the Cardinals’ rookie cornerback, Brandon Williams, badly on the play.
Catanzaro said missed FG was his fault, not long snapper Kam Canaday’s.
Hogan had three catches, including a 37-yard touchdown reception.
There is always something special when you get to play against your old team. “This is the year and I want to make sure it’s a great one”.
Giants 20, Cowboys 19: In Arlington, Texas, Eli Manning threw for three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score to Victor Cruz in his first game in almost two years.
