Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright out for multiple weeks with foot injury

The star Arizona linebacker, just after returning from knee surgery, will be sidelined with a right foot sprain sustained in the Wildcats’ 56-30 loss to UCLA on Saturday.

Wildcats coach Rich Rodriguez said on Monday that the junior will be out ‘several weeks”. “Jamar Allah and Anthony Lopez suffered foot sprains in camp, and they returned in a few weeks, and with the way Scooby attacks his rehab, hopefully we’ll have him back in a couple of weeks”.

Rodriguez said the school would have considered a medical redshirt for Wright if the foot was broken, but since the MRI was negative he will try to come back to the lineup later in the season. Wright is eligible to declare for the NFL Draft should he want after this season.

Arizona entered the season as a Top 25 team with Pac-12 title hopes due largely to Wright and the defense as a whole.

Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright III (33) during the first half of an NCAA college football game against UCLA, Saturday, September 26, 2015, in Tucson, Ariz. Then again, he led the nation in tackles, tackles for loss, forced fumbles and was third in sacks, and he was playing in his first game since a meniscus injury, so the standards were awfully high.
