Mexican authorities evacuated people from low-lying areas around the resort city of Cabo San Lucas as Tropical Storm Javier blew past the tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula before weakening to a tropical depression Tuesday.
“A weakening trend is forecast to begin by Tuesday afternoon”, it said, adding that Javier was about 30 miles (48 km) south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, a popular getaway for USA visitors on the peninsula.
It was skirting up the Pacific Coast of Baja California about 25 miles (40 kph) southeast of Cabo San Lazaro. The resort was closed to navigation, and some owners of smaller fishing boats could be seen pulling them onto shore and hauling them away on trailers.
