Arizona State Sparky Forked Up My Back … Councilman Claims
A devilish American football mascot could wind up costing his university more than $170,000 for an embarrassing stunt gone wrong.

– A city councilman who was injured after the mascot for Arizona State University jumped on his back has filed a claim against the school. “Then my expression changes to terror as I felt that pop”, he told ABC15 after he got out of the hospital. The councilman had undergone back surgery two months earlier and had not yet recovered.
To be fair to Sparky, he is, you know, a Devil. “It’s frustrating just having to deal with it day to day but that doesn’t mean I’m mad at anybody”.
In fact, Schapira says he’s had to use a cane to walk ever since the incident.
He was taken to hospital with a torn muscle in his back that will take six months to fully heal.
David Schapira said the University required the claim be filed in order for him to get paid.
He is asking for $96,146 in damages for himself and $27,000 for the City of Tempe due to expenses related to his injuries.
The councilman, who is also assistant superintendent at the East Valley Institute of Technology in Phoenix, missed 10 days of work because of the injury – four of which were spent in hospital. He is optimistic he will be able to settle the issue as a claim from school, rather than a lawsuit.
“ASU sincerely apologizes for Sparky’s excessive exuberance at Friday night’s game”.

Arizona State University indicates that it intends to pay Mr Schapira’s claim and wished him a speedy recovery, according to local reports.
