ARK: Survival Evolved Scorched Earth Expansion Available Today

The expansion tosses you into a desert world with seven different biome areas in it. In Scorched Earth, players must find shelter and gather resources to survive. Players interested in trying out ARK: Scorched Earth must already own ARK: Survival Evolved, which is usually $29.99 but is on sale this week for $17.99 here on Steam and here on Xbox One.

Will you be purchasing ARK: Survival Evolved’s complete and polished Scorched Earth expansion? The expansion, which adds a new map to the game, costs $19.99 to download and is part of an overall update to the main game. “While we’ve had Scorched Earth and future ARKs in the planning stages since the project’s inception, establishing its inter-ARK travel technology was the essential reason for making this content available right now”, Co-Creative Director Jeremy Stieglitz writes in a post on Xbox Wire. “We encourage everyone to grab some trustworthy tribemates, don your safari hats, layer on the SPF-1000 sunscreen, and head into the great blazing desert!” To help matters, though, there are over 50 new items to craft such as clothing, portable structures such as tents, and there are new tools as well. You can use whips, boomerangs, wind turbines, and flamethrowers to aid and protect your tribe’s base. Lead a caravan of the camel-like Morellatops, or rain fire down on your enemies from the back of a Wyvern.

As you’d gather from its name, it features a new sandy, desert biome and creatures to go along with it.

Beyond the numerous dinosaurs available in the base game, Scorched Earth will introduce new species including Wyverns, Death Worms, and the Manticore boss. Other weather experiences might come along to mix things up though – sand and electrical storms are forces to be reckoned with.

On top of Studio Wildcard releasing Scorched Earth for ARK: Survival Evolved, the game’s Xbox One version is going to be updated to include a graphical improvement that will see the native resolution upped to 720p, with the UI rising to 1080p. It also brings the Primitive+ mod for +100 new items.
