Arkansas police shooting: Two officers shot by gunman still at large

Before that, he spent five years with the Fort Smith Police Department and was a Marine Corps veteran. Eventually, he surrendered, reportedly waving a white flag out of a window, walking out with his hands raised and laying down on the ground to be handcuffed. A bomb squad was also called to Jones’ home because investigators heard he had a license to work with explosives.

Court documents show Jones was arrested in February on charges of Possession of a Firearm after having been previously convicted of a felony, and of Possession of Oxycodone. NEWS5 listed multiple prior offenses for Jones, including a 2007 conviction for manufacture and possession of a controlled substance and a 2011 conviction for theft of property. The dog was still missing Wednesday afternnon, the sheriff said.

According to neighbors, Jones has terminal cancer, an arsenal of weapons and “has nothing to lose”.

When police arrived about ten minutes after dispatch received the call, he greeted them by pointing a rifle at them. At least three helicopters were also sent to the scene.

Sebastian County Sheriff Bill Hollenbeck tells Fort Smith ABC affiliate KHBS that the suspect was arrested Wednesday.

Hollenback said Cooper was 65 and “dynamic”.

Pevehouse says the shooting happened Wednesday morning as the officers responded to an unspecified call for service.

TWO police officers are reported to have been shot in an ongoing incident in the US.
