Armed Protesters Gather Outside Brock Turner’s Ohio Home

The 21-year-old served his sentence at the Santa Clara County jail.

Turner was released from the Santa Clara County jail Friday after serving half of a six month sentence for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman.

Turner, like almost all California jail inmates, will be released after serving half his sentence.

Meanwhile, as protesters gather in OH, other protesters thousands of miles away in Santa Clara, California, are rallying against Persky, calling him an unfit judge who isn’t safe to make judgments on criminal cases. “You and me. You are the cause, I am the effect”, she wrote.

A campaign to recall Persky has gained momentum.

After the sentencing, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen wrote Assembly Bill 2888, which would prohibit probation in cases like Turner’s, effectively requiring jail time for anyone convicted of rape or sexual assault of an unconscious or intoxicated person.

Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer said Turner has five days to register as a sex offender with his office in Xenia, Ohio, 15 miles east of Dayton.

Turner and the victim drank heavily at a fraternity party and left together in the early morning hours of January 18, 2015. Two passers-by stopped when they saw Turner grinding against her unconscious body; he ran and they chased after him, pinning him to the ground until police showed up.

“I have a younger sister, who just started at Ohio State”, Goralski said. Turner, then an Olympic hopeful, unsuccessfully argued that the encounter was consensual.

She urged Persky to disregard the probation officer’s recommendation of straight probation, based on findings that Turner was considered low risk to reoffend and had already endured great losses.

“How fast Brock swims does not lessen the severity of what happened to me, and should not lessen the severity of his punishment”, the victim said. Although Perksy stopped handling criminal cases shortly after the backlash of Turner’s sentencing, he still handles civil cases, and that’s something even California Senator Jim Beall wants to put an end to.

Turner could be released as early as 12:01 a.m. Friday, but typically the jail doesn’t release prisoners until daylight.

“Women look at these cases, they are seeing something quite different from what Judge Persky sees”, Dauber said.

He must complete a sex-offender counseling class for one to three years. Prosecutors earlier removed from an unrelated sex assault case.

Fischer said his department will notify Turner’s neighbours informing them that a convicted sex offender is moving nearby. He will be barred from working with children in any capacity.

As part of the program, Turner must submit to polygraph tests. His name, photo and address will be publicly available on Ohio’s online sex offender registry. Turner will be required to register every three months in person at the sheriff’s office, reaffirming that he is still living with his parents, the sheriff said. He must seek permission from law enforcement to travel out of state, lawyers say.
