Army chief pays homage at war memorial in Dras

But there was a heaviness in the air as armymen remembered their colleagues and fellow-fighters, some dead at the line of duty and some tortured to death, defending the country.

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh paid tributes to the Kargil War martyrs memorial in Jammu and Kashmir’s Drass sector. As per reports, the celebration for the occasion began on July 20; however the main function will held on July 25 and July 26.

In the evening, a pipe band and brass band display will be held which will be followed by a beating retreat ceremony.

On the 16th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas the nation pays tribute to the 527 courageous sons of Mother India who gave their lives in the Kargil War. This will then be followed by lighting of lamps. The wreath laying ceremony for the martyrs will be held on Sunday which will be followed by an interaction with Veer Naris. On July 24, a dare devil show was organized by the Army.
