At present, she serves twice every month.
Barber, who entered the contest as Miss District of Columbia, was commissioned as a quartermaster officer in 2011 and is now an Army Reserves logistics commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade in Maryland, noted her pageant biography.
She will use her year with the title supporting veteran’s causes and hopes to tackle the issue of suicide and post-traumatic stress disorder among military members.
“My commander should be watching right now”, Barber said.
“[She] gave perhaps the strongest answer of the night”, Associated Press writer Sally Ho wrote, while CNN writer Tim Hume wrote that Barber “mount [ed] a strong defense of women in combat roles in the military”.
As the victor of Sunday’s 2016 Miss USA competition held at the T-Mobile Arena off the Las Vegas Strip, Barber will go on to compete in the Miss Universe contest.
Barber said that women are just as tough as men during the question-and-answer segment. “I am dedicated. And it is important that we recognize that gender does not limit us in the United States Army”.
When Miss California Nadia Mejia attempted to answer a hard question about income inequality, her rambling response left social media users scratching their heads. Hawaii answered with grace and what she believed in you go girl! Along with her other questions, Miss Hawaii, a.k.a. Chelsea Hardin, was asked by judge Laura Brown, “If the election were held tomorrow, would you vote Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump for president, and why would you choose one over the other?”
Hardin said there was no way to correctly answer the question during the beauty pageant and that gender doesn’t matter when deciding the president. Barber was not only exclusively lovely but managed to surprise everyone with her strong answer when asked about women in combat.
Miss California USA is poking some fun at herself after flubbing a question about the nation’s economic gap during the Miss USA pageant.
And now it’s down to 10. Miss District of Columbia, Deshauna Barber, was the victor.
They include college students, an Army officer and a registered nurse. Now this strong and incredible woman will go on to compete in the Miss Universe contest. Trump formerly owned the Miss USA pageant. Some commented that the event was less campy and more boring than previous years without the brash billionaire’s involvement, while others said they were glad to take in the guilty-pleasure show without supporting the businessman turned politician.

‘I’d be there in a heartbeat, ‘ she told the Las Vegas Sun.
