A statement signed by Col. Tukur Gusau, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations said, “The restriction on vehicular movements will be observed during the Eid Kabir celebrations throughout the state”.

On Wednesday, military authorities in the northeastern state imposed a state-wide ban on all vehicular movement – “including motorbikes, bicycles, donkeys, horses and camels” – from 5pm Wednesday until the early hours of Saturday.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but initial suspicion has fallen on the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram, which has resorted to hit-and-run tactics after the Nigerian military recaptured territory once held by the militants.

He said a bomb explosion from a suicide bomber hit the Onion section of a local market at Monguno on Sunday evening, which resulted in the death of not less than 27 persons, mostly traders.
