– Family and friends gathered Thursday for a memorial service for Carter Davis, one of two teens found murdered in Roswell Monday morning.
Two teen friends found slain behind a suburban Atlanta grocery store Monday had been shot in the head, an autopsy found.
On Wednesday, police arrested and charged a 20-year-old suspect, Jeffrey Hazelwood, with the murders.
Henderson and Davis were both 17 years old and set to start their senior years of high school. He will be transferred to the Fulton County Jail.
Cherokee County School District released a statement, saying: “We all are devastated by this tragic news”.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner said the two teenagers each died from a single gunshot wound of the head.
Detectives working the case have not confirmed gunshots to be the cause of death, said Officer Zachary Frommer. Natalie was a member of the Color Guard at Roswell High School and Carter played football and lacrosse at River Ridge High School in Woodstock, school leaders said.
Police investigate a crime scene, Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016 in Roswell, Ga.
Carter was a senior at River Ridge High School, where he “excelled in the classroom and was always willing to help out classmates”, Principal B. Darrell Herring said in a letter to parents Monday.
Davis also played lacrosse in Rapid City, South Dakota, before returning to finish high school in Georgia, where he had lived as a child, Black Hills Lacrosse Association past president Richard Sudmeier said. Based on the evidences obtained, the police pursued Hazelwood as the prime suspect for the victims’ killings.
According to the city government of Roswell, Hazelwood was arrested after police followed clues and evidences obtained from CCTV footages and witness testimonies in the area.
