Arrest over dead mum in freezer for sale

A woman has been arrested after her mother’s body was found in a freezer sold at a garage sale.

Marcella Jean Lee, 56, was detained on Thursday about 100 miles (160km) south of Goldsboro, where her mum’s remains were discovered. A police statement said she’d been sought for months on a felony charge of failure to report a death.

WNCN reported that Lee’s mother, Arma Ann Roush, was found dead in a chest freezer on May 27 after Lee allegedly sold the appliance for $30 to one of her mother’s neighbors in Goldsboro. It was taped shut and Lee told the neighbour that friends would collect the contents.

The woman’s arrest, courtesy of Golsboro Police came after the daughter failed to report her mother’s death. In May, the buyer opened it and called 911.

‘I just opened it and there’s a body in there I think. She is being held under a $50,000 secured bond.

She is due to appear in court on Monday.
