Arrow Season 4 Episode 2 Sneak Preview: The Candidate
I was really looking forward to another change of scenery, and I really hope that Oliver isn’t going to end up marooned on this island again for the duration of this season’s (and next season’s) flashbacks.

Oliver and Felicity seem happy, so happy in fact Oliver is planning to pop the question.
The premiere episode picks up months after Oliver and Felicity drove off into the sunset in the season 3 finale.
“Arrow” wrapped up its third season on a lighter note, but Darhk times are ahead when the show resumes Wednesday night on The CW.
All in all, a solid episode – if a bit by the numbers.
And with that, he tells everyone he and Felicity, who are now together (Oliver’s Nyssa marriage be damned!), are leaving the city.
Very good start to this season.
They really need help, so Thea and Laurel interrupt an nearly proposal (unbeknownst to Felicity), against Diggle’s wishes. Which is not as awkward as Oliver and Felicity’s brunch friends bringing up reproduction at the table. The last time that Oliver was seen as wrecked as he is in the flash-forward was after Thea was gutted by Ras al Ghul, and he even referred back to that incident in Green Arrow. Foreshadowing? Diggle is still holding a very big grudge against Oliver for what he did when he was undercover in the League of Assassins. Lyla says, “Oliver did what he thought he had to do to defeat Ra’s”. It shared that Oliver will let Felicity in.
Meanwhile, the Season 4 Episode 1 “Green Arrow” follows Oliver and Smoak’s getaway being halted, as Thea and Laurel Lance visit them and inform Oliver that his help is needed in Star City.
Felicity is able to track down the location of Darhk’s base to an abandoned building in Star City.
However, they were interrupted by Laurel Lance or the Black Canary (Katie Cassidy) and Thea Queen (Willa Holland), as they couldn’t handle the situation at Star City anymore. While it’s too soon to say how they’ll fare throughout the rest of this season, they’re off to a strong start and take a very unexpected turn early on.
A new trailer previewing next week’s episode of “Arrow” offers a peek at Anarky as Team Green Arrow offers its help to a police department incapable of dealing with the villain on its own. I had no complaints and this premiere is arguably the best we’ve gotten. He doesn’t know how to do that job without letting the darkness overwhelm him.
After the pep talk, Felicity then reveals the new Arrow suit Cisco made for Oliver.
Neal McDonough in the Arrow episode “Green Arrow”. Oliver suits up to Blake Neely’s awesome “Arrow” theme music, which makes it clear – the Arrow is back. The scene cuts to the train station where Oli is lecturing Thea on how to control herself. Upon saying the news, Oliver and Thea became concerned, since the last three mayors have been assassinated.
Oliver of the present didn’t seem terribly surprised by Darhk’s abilities. Dig then joins the fun and helps dispatch a few bad guys of his own.
– Wait, Oliver was the Hood before he came back to Starling…..and hold on, he is back on Lian Yu? “It’s not every week Team Arrow versus Damien because that would get really stupid and repetitive, but we found all these really interesting ways to keep the character of Damien involved in the drama of the show”.
David: Well… I don’t know if he’s mad at Oliver. To be the symbol of hope The Arrow never was. Bring on the Green Arrow!
But the final scene did offer up clues on who may be the unlucky victim. Nitpicking aside, the gang storming the abandoned warehouse results in one of the big reveals: Damien Darhk has super powers. She reminds Diggle that in times of war “we do what we have to do”.
The flashbacks, however, were not the only time jumps in this episode.
Arrow in Season 3 failed in the villain category by seasons end, sure Ra’s was a great villain but he was vanquished way too easily. And while the first episode of this season wasn’t necessarily anything spectacular, it also didn’t disappoint. Last season he was in Hong Kong, working for Amanda Waller.

This season will be heavy on the magic – so much so that fellow DC (anti-?)hero John Constantine will be making an appearance.
