Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham Hotspurs: 5 talking points

Ozil clipped a cross towards the far post from the right and Gibbs, introduced off the bench just three minutes earlier, arrived in ideal time to sidefoot in at the near post for his first goal in over a year, despite Lloris’ best efforts to claw the ball off the line. He’s a real goal-scorer and he did fight.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher used his Twitter account to lay into Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil on Sunday, in what the former defender viewed as a below par performance in the North London derby clash between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. But that can happen.

‘Spurs could be in a position next season to be in with a chance, but not this time’. I have not done the mathematics yet.

“I thought maybe he would get better but at half-time I took him off then we were better balanced in the second half”.

“It shows that we can be up there with the big teams”, Kane, who will now link up with England, said of the unbeaten run. “Nothing changes when he scores, when he doesn’t score”. He’s a top player.

“Obviously, as a player you always want to play but we have lots of very good players here, so you have to be patient and make the most of your opportunity when it comes around. I think it was a good period for him to learn”. “I thought we played very well”.

Friedel told talkSPORT: “I tip Tottenham to get into the top four this season, and that’s not because of my allegiance to them – I really believe in what Mauricio Pochettino is doing there”. We showed great mental resources and we refused to give up.

“We were a bit on the ropes and we responded”.

“We’re not just drawing where we’re hanging on, we’re drawing where we’re playing very well and there are chances we could be winning these games. I do not see how, today, I could have a managerial career elsewhere”.

Hammered by Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the Gunners seemed destined to end a hard week on another low when Harry Kane gave Spurs a deserved first-half lead.

The Gunners are optimistic that injured trio Hector Bellerin, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be fit to rejoin the squad when they resume their Premier League campaign a week on Saturday.
