Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has admitted he is “surprised” by former club Chelsea’s shocking start to the new season.

The Czech Republic worldwide is now keen to play without the added protection but is unable to for insurance reasons – even though it affects his hearing during games.

Cech told Tyden: ‘I would be more confident if I had it off. Whether you like it or not, with the helmet surroundings are perceived differently.

“It’s a team that six months ago won the league”.

Cech’s Arsenal, meanwhile, travel to West Bromwich Albion looking to keep pace with Premier League leaders Manchester City at the top of the table.

Jose Mourinho’s side have so far lacked the quality they displayed last season – winning the title. It is very hard to believe that the club is in such a state.

Cech has established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper following his summer switch across London.

There have been a few more encouraging signs in recent weeks, with the Blues performing well during their defeat to Stoke City for example.

Chelsea have an average shot accuracy of 42% in the Premier League this season.

Since his departure, Chelsea have struggled and lie 16th in the Premier League after 12 games, having lost seven times already.
