Arsenal Activate Jamie Vardy’s Release Clause

While Leicester City will definitely try and do everything in their power to keep Vardy at the King Power Stadium, they can not stop Arsenal from talking to the striker as they have triggered his release clause.

Vardy only signed a new four-year contract with Leicester in February and is preparing to represent England at Euro 2016, which starts next week.

Cross also revealed that Arsenal had been contacted by Vardy’s representatives a month ago to gage their interest, but the club did not bite at the time.

The Reds have however been derailed by the terms of the clause, which require that the bidder be a Champions League club.

Arsenal’s current striker seems to be cool with the idea of adding another striker.

So, it is now nearly confirmed that Premier League victor Jamie Vardy will be making a move to Arsenal this summer after reports from BBC and Sky Sports have announced it over the past 48 hours.

Asked whether Arsene Wenger will have to implement a system change to accommodate both players in same starting XI, Giroud joked: “Obviously we would play 4-4-2!”

Over the last 10 years Arsenal have signed just seven of 38 summer acquisitions – 13 per cent – before July when they have conducted the vast majority of their business. Tottenham would appear an unlikely destination unless Vardy were willing to play second-fiddle to Harry Kane whilst Manchester City’s transfer business has so far been focused on the acquisition of Ilkay Gundogan.

The 29-year-old postman shot to fame when he was pictured arm-in-arm with a delighted-looking Vardy aboard the team coach after the Premier League trophy win.

Like Vardy, Lineker was top scorer in the top flight with Leicester before leaving, in his case for Everton in 1985.

According to the Guardian, the fee for Vardy would be around £20million. Can he be a good player for the club?

It’s not a done deal by any means, and what this could mean for Frenchman Olivier Giroud’s future at Arsenal remains to be seen.
