Arsenal agree Mustafi fee, Perez medical looms

Arsenal’s frustrating summer in the transfer market could soon be over as manager Arsène Wenger has confirmed that a double deal for forward Lucas Pérez and the defender Shkodran Mustafi is poised to go through.

Everton are still hopeful of a deal but reports in Spain suggest Arsenal are strong favourites to sign the player.

Arsenal could reportedly wrap up the transfer of Shkodran Mustafi by Saturday, that’s according to reports in Germany.

“They will integrate into the team now and we will help them join the squad”, Wenger continued.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that this summer’s transfer window didn’t work out the way he had planned, but denied that his late deal for striker Lucas Perez was a panic buy. “We don’t have any plans for anyone else now”.

When asked if there would be any other new arrivals before the transfer window closes on Wednesday evening, Wenger replied: “I don’t think so”.

Arsenal’s league rivals Manchester United and Manchester City, who both have new managers at the club have strengthened the squad, along with Liverpool.

Arsenal are set to announce a £35million deal for the Valencia centre-back, who would become the third most expensive centre back in football history, early next week after lengthy negotiations with the Spanish side.

Perez scored 17 goals last season and earned rave reviews despite Deportivo struggling against relegation.

But injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel have forced Arsenal’s hand and Wenger will take his summer spending close to £100 million ($132M) following the signings of Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding, Takuma Asano and Kelechi Nwakali.

“It was a odd transfer market – I expected it to be easier than ever but it was more hard than ever”, Wenger said. “In the next two or three days everybody will find agreements”.

“I’m happy when our supporters are happy”, he said. He is aware of the Premier League having spent two-and-a-half years with Everton as a teenager, but is yet to make his first appearance having only played in the Europa League for the Toffees. The fact that he could go out somewhere and play?
