Arsenal and Manchester United could compete in a ‘British Premiership’ within

“We would like to compete in the Holy Grail in England”, he told Sky Sports on Wednesday.

Talk of Celtic and Rangers moving into the English league has always been mooted but speaking ahead of Celtic’s Europa League clash with Fenerbahce at Parkhead tonight, (Live on Setanta Ireland, BT Sport 2 8.05pm), Desmond claims top English clubs will engineer change.

English clubs voted against the proposal in 2009 vote, with Premier League chief executive, Richard Scudamore, saying: “It’s a non-starter”.

And Warburton, who arrived at Rangers from Brentford this summer, believes the constant need to chase TV deals south of the border will provide a chance for Glasgow’s two giants to join a new setup.

“I think the people will want it because of the draw of Celtic and Rangers and their supports”, the Englishman said.

“It will bring money into Scotland and rekindle football in Scotland having (Manchester) United, Arsenal and others”. Rangers and Celtic are among the top 10 teams in Britain and a few of the biggest teams in the world – they should be competing at the highest level. “Maybe it’s going to be ten years but I think it’s inevitable”.

“Going to a few venues in the middle of winter as well will change the challenge so we have to be prepared, one game at a time, and let’s see where we are”.

“It takes time but I think Celtic is a team that should be playing the best and have an opportunity to be playing in the best league”.

“In Italy and in Spain you have the bigger clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid who negotiate their own football contracts, because they are more advantageous to them”.

“And then in five years I am positive they would be challenging for the title in the Premier League just because of the fact they are able to grow and the money that comes from the television is so much they can spend it on the right players”.

Deila concedes that failing to overcome Malmo in the Champions League play-off round was a major disappointment, but insists he has had no doubts over his overall blueprint for the club.

Hoops boss Ronny Deila followed that assertion by saying he hoped to see his team in “the Premier League or a league that is more a British thing”.
