Arsenal’s Brazilian central defender Gabriel was carried off on a stretcher after damaging ankle ligaments during their 3-2 pre-season win over Manchester City in Gothenburg on Sunday.
The last few years may have been hard but there’s no doubt that his departure would truly be the end of an era at Arsenal and in the Premier League.
Wenger, who took charge of Arsenal in September 1996, is entering the final season of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and is looking to deliver a first league title since 2004.
Talking of dodgy ankles, Jack Wilshere is said to be “doing well” but not well enough to play against Liverpool on Sunday.
“The bigger squad you have, the bigger chance you have of winning the Premier League or reaching the latter stages of the Champions League”.

Asked why the world’s top managers were attracted to English football, Wenger said: “Let’s not be naive”.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has just a year left on his current contract and has conceded he has worries over what will follow his career.
“He is a special talent and the Premier League is a better place now he is in it”.
This comes on the heels of comments made earlier today at the Premier League’s media day ahead of the opening weekend.
“He had a little setback recently but its looks very minor and of course for us to have a great season it is important to have a great Jack Wilshere”.
“He’s been around for years and I’ve played against him when he was making his debut for Switzerland at Wembley and you could tell then he had something about him”.

Now, with the new Premier League season only days away, it has been reported that Wenger has finally submitted an offer of £30 million for Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.
