Arsenal have announced the signing of German global defender Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia.

Arsene Wenger has been in hot pursuit of World Cup victor Mustafi after injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel with Calum Chambers joiningMiddlesbrough on loan.

The 27-year-old, renowned for his pace and work-rate, scored 17 goals in 36 league appearances for the club last season, while also providing 10 assists.

The centre-back is Arsenal’s sixth singing of the transfer window and his arrival comes on the same day as that of Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna.

The 24-year-old Mustafi, who is on worldwide duty, began his career at Everton’s academy before moving on to Sampdoria.

‘He is very focused as I told you, and he knows the rigorous climate of the Premier League and how much you have to fight for every game’. He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season a year ago in a team that didn’t create too many chances.

Hull signed three players: England midfielder Ryan Mason from Tottenham for an undisclosed club-record fee, Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall from second-tier team Cardiff, and striker Will Keane from Manchester United.

“The player wanted to join us as well, and I think he will hopefully be happy here and will enforce our squad”.

Mustafi, formerly of Everton and Sampdoria, said: “I’ve always loved the club Arsenal”.
