Arsenal could welcome Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini back for Saturday’s

Despite his two goal heroics in the north London derby clash with the Spuds in the League cup, Flamini is not the man to bring on if Arsenal are either chasing the game or struggling to make a breakthrough on the opposition goal.

Arsene Wenger has revealed midfield duo Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini could return to Arsenal’s lineup for Saturday’s trip to Watford. “We are not full yet because a few players land today in the afternoon so we have to check their fitness to see if we have no bad surprises”.

Wenger said on the club’s official website: “Koscielny has a slight chance to be back on Saturday”.

He works hard for the team and finishes. “And I don’t think we lost anybody from our last game”.

He only made seven appearances last season, but is back in full training ahead of the weekend.

Wenger, though, was less upbeat over Wilshere and Welbeck.

If Arsenal have the lead, though, it is Flamini you would turn to to keep that lead and offer the defence a few protection.

“Koscielny has a definite test to see if he’s available or not”, he said.

Arsenal have a minor doubt over the fitness of Alexis Sanchez following the latest round of worldwide matches, but he should be available and Wenger will certainly be hoping so after his outstanding return to form. Wenger says the situation with Sanchez is always tricky, owing to the player’s enthusiasm to play for his country despite being injured, although there are no signs of any injury he sustained while on worldwide duty. I am not [comfortable that Sanchez played against Brazil and Peru] but there is not a lot I can do about it. He came off as you saw against Manchester United with a hip problem, a rotator muscle, and he wants to go.
