Arsenal injury scare: Alexis Sanchez has a hamstring problem but Arsene Wenger

What we wanted was to come out of this game with a chance to qualify and we needed to do the job and Bayern Munich needed to do the job and they did that well.

“But I don’t know, Sanchez had a little hamstring alarm and let’s see how he recovers from that”.

Arsene Wenger dismissed suggestions he disliked spending money after Arsenal’s win over Dinamo Zagreb.

Wenger saw the defensive midfielder added to his lengthening list of players unavailable for selection, with Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky yet to play a minute of action this season.

“So I think they can have success in the Champions League by going to the next round and they can succeed in the Europa League because then they become favourites, so I think they have a lot to play for”.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks as an injury crisis ravages their squad and Wenger has suggested he could enter the transfer market in January if the right opportunity presents itself. “I think there is a huge potential, now we have to demonstrate it on the pitch”.

Per Mertesacker insists he and his Arsenal team-mates now believe they can get out of their Champions League group following their “nightmare” start to the competition.

“Sometimes we went to Olympiacos already qualified”, Wenger said. “We believe and before the game we knew we were capable of doing special things”, he said.

The goals, courtesy of Mesut Ozil and a double from Alexis Sanchez, took Arsenal’s points to 6 placing them third in the log behind Olympiacos who have nine points having lost 4-0 to Bayern Munich on Tuesday. “They want our bodies again definitely to strengthen the bench”.

“It’s a really good side when everybody’s fit, but at the moment they are struggling, although they are still getting results”, Seaman said at the Pride of Sport Awards. “They are a higher quality team than Olympiacos and my opinion is that they will go through”.

Ahead of “Black Friday”, Wenger was asked if he would be bargain hunting for a replacement but – while admitting he loves a bargain – the Frenchman said Arsenal are willing to spend big for the right player. When they go, it is to kill and after they have to stop.
