“Hopefully Benik spoke positively about us, well, I’m sure he did! For the rest, we did what we needed to do”.
Calum Chambers also on Tuesday joined Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season, while earlier on Wednesday Serge Gnabry signed for Werder Bremen on a permanent basis.
It is the developments surrounding Wilshere, however, that will be the highest profile.
With injuries blighting his career – Wilshere missed pretty much the whole of last season – the key for the midfielder will be to get playing time, and after talking to manager Eddie Howe and former Arsenal teammate Benik Afobe, who is also the godfather to Wilshere’s child, the Arsenal Academy product made a decision to sign for Bournemouth.
Since establishing himself in 2010/11, he has frequently suffered with injuries.
The Gunners midfielder has been used primarily from the bench this season and does not look set to change in the foreseeable future with Arsene Wenger’s options in central midfield aplenty.
The England global will spent the current season on the south coast with former youth team-mate Benik Afobe, and his future will no doubt be a speculated as the season wears on.
Palace manager Alan Pardew had made no secret of his desire to recruit Wilshere, and had overseen the rebuilding of Wilfried Zaha’s reputation after his unsuccessful transfer to Manchester United.
And, after his representatives held meetings with Palace and Bournemouth on Tuesday, Wilshere chose to head to the south coast in order to revive his career.
Bournemouth are still waiting for their first top-flight victory after one draw and two defeats in their opening three Premier League games.
