Besides maintaining that the title will be eventually decided by the players’ performance on the pitch, Arsene Wenger believes this Premier League season will also be a world championship of managers.
Summer signing Rob Holding and youngster Calum Chambers may line up at the heart of the Arsenal defence on Sunday unless Wenger completes a deal for another defender in time for him to play against Liverpool.
“I’ve said many times that we will get a strong season from Theo Walcott because he got hit hard and I saw how he responded”, Wenger told Arsenal Player.
The north London club have held talks with Valencia over Shkodran Mustafi, 24, and a return to the Premier League seems imminent for the former Everton defender.
“I have not seen anything different in him”, the England global told Sky Sports. While, previously, Jurgen Klopp was also introduced to the Premier League as the Liverpool boss and will be at the helm for his first full season.
Quite how Wenger will combat the worrying situation he finds himself in remains to be seen but, for Arsenal fans, the answer is simple: spend, spend, spend.
The England global was only initially expected to be out for a matter of days and was tipped to be available for selection when the Gunners welcome Liverpool to the Emirates on Sunday.
“After Alex retired and we played them over there [at Manchester United] he sent a message to me to come up and have a drink with him. People would understand if you lost to City, United Liverpool, Tottenham – not Tottenham – but all the other big clubs”, he added.
“He is a top manager and I know the Premier League has added some of the best managers in the world but, for me, the boss is up there and I think he shows that with his hunger every year”.

“I’ve fought all my life for footballers to make money but when you pay them before they produce it can kill the hunger”, he said.
