Arsenal’s Wenger says players weren’t fit

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised his side for the attacking display they put on in Sunday’s thrilling victory over Arsenal. We’ve got top players on the bench and back at Melwood who weren’t fit enough.

“We started much slower in the second half”.

“It’s a very hard situation to sort out because the players come back late because of the Euros and, on top of that, you play them and they get injured”.

“We had many players that played very late in the Euros”.

Liverpool’s first clear chance came five minutes before the break, when Roberto Firmino cut the ball back from the left for Georginio Wijnaldum to drill a shot straight at Petr Cech, after Chambers had given away possession with a sloppy pass.

Mourinho was pleased with the victory and the performance from Ibrahimovic, with the Swedish forward’s role at United expected to go beyond just his performances on the pitch.

It is unclear when Holding could get another chance to start a league game as Arsenal could have Laurent Koscielny back in the squad for next weekend’s trip to champions Leicester, while the Gunners are also in talks with Valencia over a deal for Germany worldwide Shkodran Mustafi.

“Then the manager said a lot of things we needed to improve on in the second half and I felt we did that”, said Henderson, who praised his teammates for how they “came out firing in the second-half” and “got some brilliant goals”.

“Physically, we are not ready”.

“Can they recover for next week?”

“I knew in the moment, but it was too late – I had Sadio on my back and in this moment we switched off the machine for a second”. We did try until the end but we lacked a bit of stability.

Wenger was without centre-halves Gabriel Paulista, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker and had to make do with Calum Chambers and Rob Holding. “You have to sometimes accept that you can not control absolutely everything, even if you try to be as intelligent as possible”.

By Crooks’ standards it isn’t the most ridiculous line-up – that honour goes to this 3-1-1-5 formation (or is is a 3-1-6) which would test Kurt Zouma’s midfield abilities to their limit. He got up to take the penalty himself and was denied by Simon Mignolet’s save.

“I am happy not only because I scored two goals but because the team played well and we got the three points we wanted”.

“To be honest, before the match a little bit, yes”, Mourinho said. It was a ideal start for us. “We made our mistakes together and we scored wonderful goals”, he said. On the other side, there’s no alternative to defend together. Remember, you need to log in with a Sky iD to watch Premier League video.

“It’s a spectacular result but it’s not a result you want to have too many times during the season”.

“Scoring four goals is wonderful, conceding three is the opposite of that emotion”, he said.

“Are Arsenal still the first choice in England?”.
