Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud backs ‘generous’ team-mate Joel Campbell

Victory for Arsenal lifted them back up to second place in the Premier League and within touching distance of surprise leaders Leicester City, and Wenger was quick to praise the mental spirit shown by his side.

ARSENAL (4-5-1): Cech 8; Bellerin 6, Mertesacker 5, Koscielny 6, Monreal 6; Flamini 5, Ramsey 6; Campbell 7 (Gibbs 76), Ozil 9, Oxlade-Chamberlain 5 (Walcott 64, 6); Giroud 6 (Chambers 80).

“He’s a top guy who is very generous on the pitch because he never gives up”. Arsenal need some cover for their midfield and bringing in the 23-year-old could well provide them some magic in midfield while also giving them a player that can develop for the future. It’s hard not to fear that we won’t see him again this season, but let’s hope that’s not the case.

Joel Campbell, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey were all on target in a convincing display at Emirates Stadium, as the Gunners ended their run of three games without a win in the Premier League. “Because we hadn’t won for three games people would have said we were in a crisis, so it was important to get the win”. “We needed this win and it was not very easy, not everything was flawless, but this win will relieve us”.

Having taken the brunt of the blame for Arsenal’s injury problems, however, Wenger knew he would be criticised further if points were dropped at home to an in-form but relegation-threatened outfit.

Toivonen played his part in arguably Sunderland’s best display of Allardyce’s tenure, yet the Black Cats paid the price for missing a series of chances throughout the encounter, with Fabio Borini, Duncan Watmore, Steven Fletcher and Patrick van Aanholt all culpable.

“It is a big game next week”, he told the club’s official website.

“I think it will have a double benefit”.

“It’s a similar game to Stoke, that could go either way”. We have to continue performing at that level. If you make a mistake against Arsenal then often they are going to score.

“I’m happy to be back and have a solid game and I’m a bit disappointed my legs didn’t carry me on past 66 minutes but I’m looking forward to the next game”.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce was impressed with his side's display at Arsenal
