Arsenal unlikely to have new defender for opener – Wenger

The Gunners manager expects this season to be the most competitive ever, with leading clubs recruiting what he described as a “world championship of managers”.

“You never know. In your job, this is a love story where you have to do (like) that it will last your whole life but, know as well, that it can stop at any moment”, Wenger told Sky Sports.

As rivals Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are all adding top names to their rosters, Wenger’s apparent failures will not have been what the Arsenal faithful would have wanted as the new season looms large. Having such great footballers and legends of Liverpool and Everton come together just before the season will be a great opportunity for fans to ask some questions and get into the pre-season spirit.

And the former Monaco boss, who took over at the Emirates (eeek, Highbury) in 1996, says he is addicted to football so much that the prospect of retirement scares him.

The 25-year-old was the star of Euro 2016 and we all saw how well he linked up with Olivier Giroud for France, so it would be unbelievable to see them playing together at the Emirates this coming season.
