Arsene Wenger Responds to Critics of His Transfer Policies

The Arsenal boss has been criticised for not beefing up his squad while rivals such as Manchester United and Manchester City have spent millions on players.

If you look around in Europe, all my friends I call are all looking for centre-backs but they can not find them.

Patrick Vieira won the Premier League title with Arsenal in 1997-98, 2001-02 and 2003-04.

Arsenal are interested by Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to reports in the British media, but Wenger refused to reveal any specific transfer targets.

Regardless of who it is, Wenger has made it clear that Arsenal will be completing the signing of a new defender prior to the end of August even if he may not fit into the club’s recruitment policy.

“I will spend if I find the right player”.

Arsenal do not have the capacity to get a transfer like that wrong; anyone who costs big money has to be a success. We have a team working on buying, not just me.

Arsenal knew that they would be without Koscielny for some of August, although Wenger said he is “close” to being ready to face Leicester City this weekend.

Although I agree in principle that being a collective team is better than throwing a bunch of players together in hope they can win something, most teams have quite simply integrated a few players into an already strong side.

“I believe that you have to respect the players who have played, the performance that has been done today by those teams”.

Leicester 1-1 Arsenal: We won both games against Leicester last season but I’m not sure we’re going to make it a hat-trick of victories as they’ll be desperate not to lose their first game at home as defending champions.

‘Players want to do it but do not have the opportunity. But if you ask people “give me names”, you see that it is not that easy – look at a club like Real Madrid, who have they bought?

“He has an inflammation of his knee, and they had to go in again to see if it is healing well or not”, Wenger explained. At the moment I am not concerned about that too much, I am more focused on us responding well to Sunday.

“He will have to find the right balance because if he thinks he will win games by himself that will be a massive mistake for him, if he tries to do something that he can’t do that will be a massive mistake as well”.
