Arsene Wenger says ‘quality football’ is on offer at the Emirates

Arsenal returned to third place in the Premier League table with a routine 2-0 victory over West Brom on Thursday night, yet the Gunners have stuttered over recent weeks – suffering Champions League and FA Cup elimination, while falling out of the title race. The club confirmed that 59, 568 tickets had been sold although thousands of empty seats were visible in the 60,432-capacity arena.

Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports’ Geoff Shreeves, Wenger said he can understand why fans are frustrated, but was “very disappointed” by the atmosphere at the ground. It was a good time for me – if you change a little bit of your perspective, you see how other people feel.

The Gunners occupy third spot ahead of their Super Sunday game with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this weekend after they defeated West Brom 2-0 on Thursday. “But again, I’m more of a believer of come and then if you’re not happy with the team, you can say something at the end of the game”. If you look at the PFA Team of the Year, they have many players in there, so they are good players. “We didn’t concede and couldn’t finish the game off the way we wanted”.

“We want to finish as high as possible”. I sat back and looked at what I could do in training to really get better.

“But we have got 25 players, everyone wants to play and obviously the boss has got a lot of headaches with his selection”.

A rueful Arsene Wenger said, “I’m very disappointed”. You never know what will happen in front of you, there can still be twists and turns. “But we did not always make the maximum points with the quality of our games”.

“We go to Sunderland (on Sunday), Sunderland fight not to go down”.

Sanchez’ brace on Thursday means the Arsenal forward has now helped himself to six goals in as many appearances, a feat that left his manager and teammates beaming with praise. “That will be a battle and we have to prepare for that”, he added.

Arsene Wenger has revealed Jack Wilshere will definitely be back in the Arsenal squad against Sunderland or Norwich.

And it was a clearly dejected Wenger who had to explain yet another slip-up from his team. “You have the emergence of a guy like Alex Iwobi, the players that did not play: Cazorla, Arteta, Flamini, Wilshere, Chamberlain, Welbeck didn’t play, Campbell didn’t start”.
