Arsonist Blamed for Withers Fire

The Withers Fire – the almost 3.500- acre blaze burning in Southern Oregon – was intentionally set, say officials who label the probe a criminal investigation. But Moore said crews were able to hold the east front of the fire near the park. It is only five percent contained.

Smoke may be visible from Oregon Hwy 31, officials said, though the road remains open. Firefighters wrapped the Table Mountain Lookout in fireproof aluminum sheets, protecting it from flames.

The Withers Fire has burned nearly 3,500 acres in southern Oregon.

It led to an evacuation notice for Paisely, which was finally lifted Friday afternoon.

An arsonist began the Withers Fire that continues to threaten Paisley, Oregon, though officials said Sunday morning the fire is 65% contained.

The fire, which broke out Wednesday around 2:15 p.m. near the town of Paisley, quickly grew and prompted Level 1 evacuation notices. The Sheridan was 80 percent contained Sunday night and the Pine Mountain was 95 percent contained, according to officials.
