Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu appoints 26 MLAs as parliamentary secretaries

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has blamed the sheer deficit of “leadership” with the Congress party as the key reason behind the collapse of the latter’s government in Arunachal Pradesh, and added that the entire situation is a clear case of people jumping off a sinking ship. “It will be decided at the BJP National Executive meeting at Calicut this week on whether BJP will continue to extend its outside support or be a part of the PPA government led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu”, said Sarma.

The BJP has kept open the option of joining the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) government in Arunachal Pradesh. Khandu administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new parliamentary secretaries, including two women, in a function in the presence of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Saturday alleged that the BJP was behind the “wholesale defection” of 43 MLAs in Arunachal Pradesh, resulting in Congress losing its government in that state. By virtue of the formation of NEDA, the BJP, which is in power in Assam, became a partner in the Sikkim and Arunachal governments.

Sarma reiterated that the BJP has no role in the decision of the Congress legislators to merge with the PPA on Friday.

“Chief Minister Khandu will be one of the patrons of the political platform”, Sarma added.

“They have also destroyed trust of people of Arunachal Pradesh, who voted for them as candidates of Congress”.

Asked if the PPA MLAs, who won their elections under the Congress banner, betrayed the voters, chief minister Khandu said their decision was the “call of time”. The people have seen how Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the country. Already a very senior Congress MLA Y Erabot has joined the BJP on September 11 quitting Congress while many other Congress MLAs in Manipur are in touch with us. As of now the region has four states ruled by NEDA government, he added.
