As Assembly elections get over in Bihar, Amit Shah meets PM Modi
The Bihar poll results will indicate whether the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was a transient phenomenon or indeed there has been a durable shift of India’s electorate to the Hindu right. A Dainik Jagran exit poll said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would get a majority with 130 seats as compared to 97 for the Grand Alliance. “We need a strong government for reforms to be implemented and for a change in investor mood”. Let exit polls say anything…I am coming from the ground. As the final phase of voting is being conducted in Bihar, this election has seen the highest voter turnout in the state’s election history.
Another poll by the India Today Group-CICERO claimed that the BJP-led alliance is projected to win between 111-127 seats, with a mean of 119, while the Grand Alliance will win between 110-124 seats, with a mean of 117.
ABP News-Neilson exit poll shows that the NDA will manage to bag 108 seats and the grand alliance will win 130 seats. “Others” were predicted to get five seats (plus minus 3). “It was Lalu who raised Dadri issue first in Bihar”.
PM Modi also reached out to women voters in his election speeches, and the BJP’s manifesto focuses on scheme and development plans for girl students and women.
India has been hit by growing religious intolerance since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu Nationalist Party was elected 18 months ago. “He has done nothing to fulfill his promises and this is the result”.
The Modi-loss scenario would mark one of his biggest setbacks since taking power previous year, according to Badri Narayan Tiwari, who teaches political science at G.B. Pant Social Science Institute based in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Modi had invested himself heavily in the campaign. It criticized him for waiting more than a week to condemn the murder of man for killing a cow, an animal considered sacred in Hinduism.
