As camp progresses, Saints’ Breaux closes in on NFL dream

“It really didn’t matter where I went, I would have had a chip on my shoulder, I have a chip on my shoulder every year but just the fact that the defense has a chip on its shoulder makes it that much sweeter and we all can go together and fight together”.

Breaux was a Louisiana high school standout who expected play for LSU, but a neck injury derailed his college career before it started.

He spent two seasons north of the border playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

-The Saints signed veteran tight end Alex Smith late last week after undrafted free agent Jack Tabb went down because of an apparent knee injury on Thursday.

“It’s a dream come true”, Breaux said. And he actually met Breaux a few years ago through a mutual friend during a Mardis Gras parade in New Orleans, of all places.

So Breaux introduced himself and told Browner, “Man I’m going to be up there in the NFL with you”.

“I think Brandon’s been a great addition, both just the role that he plays, obviously, as the starting corner and his presence that he brings there and from a leadership standpoint”.

“The plan was, like we have done before, a little offensive, defensive competition”, Payton said.

Browner, a former CFL player himself, seems to feel much the same way.

Kenny Vaccaro’s running mate at safety has not practiced in training camp yet.

A lot of the issues got here from the second- and third-team defenses, as they struggled to line up appropriately and have been caught shuffling gamers off the sector because the Saints’ fast-paced offense lined up for the subsequent play.

“Do not get me began”, Payton stated. “I said this to the staff the other day: There were a handful of things that were real good in that scrimmage”.

“I think we have the potential, but it’s so far away”.

Notes: Saints coaches ran sprints after practice as a result of Payton trying to see how young kickers Zach Hocher and Dustin Hopkins would handle a little pressure. Then, on Sunday, Peat lined up inside at guard, a surprising spot for a player the Saints have always said they consider a tackle. They both made all four of their kicks. Payton generally declines to discuss reasons for absences during preseason….

When Jairus Byrd returns to the field – and the rehab work he’s been doing on the field during the Saints’ morning practices suggests it will be soon – Vaccaro expects Byrd to slide seamlessly into a secondary that has performed well in training camp. But Vaccaro also said he wasn’t concerned. “A player like him would come back on a limited basis and you gradually build him up rep-wise”.

Peat got off to a bit of a slow start in training camp, but he has been getting valuable repetitions at three of the five positions along the offensive line in working at right and left tackle as well as left guard.
