As nation celebrates PV Sindhu’s silver medal, people Google her caste

Sindhu, who hails from Hyderabad, has been associated with BPCL ever since she was 14 years old and joined the company in July 2013. Congratulating Sindhu for bagging the silver medal, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh, a senior official of the Public Relation department said.

Sindhu’s parents P.V. Ramana and P. Vijaya on Friday offered prayers to the family deity at Ratnalammakunta, a remote village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

Some asserted that she was born and brought up in Hyderabad and was a Telangana “bidda.’ The counter was that she belonged to Vijayawada and was therefore an Andhra ‘ammayi”. The Haryana government will also give Rs 2.5 crore to Sakshi.

Sindhu has also been awarded Rs 75 lakh by her employers, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, which has also promoted her to deputy manager (sports) from assistant manager.

Last but not the least, actor Salman Khan, Indian Olympic Association’s brand ambassador, had announced Rs 1.01 lakh for each Indian athlete in Rio.

In fact till Saturday, Sindhu’s caste search topped Google in India over her career and Friday’s final. “Proud & best wishes”, tweeted Naidu.
