As Ronaldo breaks scoring record, Man United eliminated

Four goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, including a five minute hat-trick, powered Real Madrid to a record-equaling 8-0 win over Malmo at the Bernabeu.

According to Bleacher Report, Ronaldo has had a odd season, meaning that he has managed to rack up successive goals for the team in some matches while there were also instances that he failed to make a number on the scoresheet.

Back at the other end, Johan Wiland saved twice from the increasingly frustrated Ronaldo but he finally got his name on the scoresheet seven minutes before the break with a dipping free-kick which in truth the goalkeeper should have saved. The 8-0 win tied a record set in 2008, when Liverpool outscored Besiketas 8-0.

Elsewhere in the group, Lucas and Zlatan Ibrahimovic helped a second-string Paris St Germain side beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 as the big-spending French club ended their campaign on a high. Fans were still angry at the demoralizing 4-0 home loss to Barcelona in the Spanish league and disqualification from the Copa del Rey because of an ineligible player.

“I try and do my job and I have a clean conscience”, insisted Ronaldo, who also brushed off doubts over Real Madrid’s form this season.

This is football and things change every week. That win had a historical importance: It represented the 10th Champions League trophy the Spanish team won – an outstanding record.

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo admits he has been below par this season, and says “personal problems” have been to blame for his mixed form.

English giants Manchester United are out of the Champions League after losing 3-2 in Germany to Wolfsburg, for whom Portugal worldwide Vieirinha scored one of the goals. “I’m happy with my season so far”. “Now I have more confidence and the team are helping me a lot”.

Cristiano Ronaldo assisted the first two goals and was threatening to score several of his own and he did so with his trademark free kick which went under the gloves of the keeper.

Veteran defender Sergei Ignashevic appeared to have dashed Eindhoven hopes of advancing when he converted a 76th-minute penalty to give Moscow the lead, but PSV captain Luuk de Jong equalized just two minutes later, and Proepper’s low shot sealed the win. His fourth goal came after a cross by Francisco “Isco” Alarcon in the 59th.

He finished up scoring 11 goals in six games, with six coming against Malmo and five against Shakhtar Donetsk. That said, he has achieved things in recent past that most players wouldn’t even dream of trying. The Portuguese found space down the left to cross and Benzema tucked home the ball after Isco’s shot was cleared off the line. His and the team’s second was a header after another well-placed cross by Ronaldo. He was held scoreless in the two games against PSG.

Malmo will be targeting an upset when they visit Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Tuesday. Cheryshev had been jeered by Madrid fans before the game against Getafe on Saturday, but he was loudly applauded on Wednesday when he came on as a substitute in the 76th, with Madrid already up 8-0.

Ronaldo's 4 goals and Benzema's hat-trick was more then enough to see Madrid through the Swedish challenge
