The direct push to isolate and sanction Pakistan and the care to not escalate tensions with China, while sticking to India’s traditional posture on the South China Sea, reflect a tactical balance the Narendra Modi government is trying to maintain, senior officials told The Telegraph.

But India’s High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale at an event in Karachi said that while India and Pakistan must certainly discuss the entire range of issues, they must keep their focus on the economy which he described as a “low-hanging fruit”.
During the summit, the world leaders will review the progress of implementation of the ASEAN Community Blueprints 2025.
The two leaders reviewed progress of negotiations to improve India-South Korea comprehensive economic partnership agreement and also 10 billion United States dollar package announced previous year for infrastructure development in India.
The leaders will also exchange views on regional and worldwide issues of mutual interest and concern.

Today’s meeting is said to be the eighth meeting between the two leaders in the last two years.
