President Park Geun-hye on Wednesday called on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to further solidify robust ties with South Korea through a concrete vision for bilateral cooperation.

Vorachith said Asean must continue to adhere to Asean’s principles in promoting relevance and enhancing the centrality of Asean in its relations with external partners based on the Asean way, and in accordance with the particularity and reality of the Asean region moving towards a dynamic, rules-based, people-oriented, people-centred Asean community.
Maritime security, terrorism, economic and socio-cultural cooperation will be on the agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 14th ASEAN-India Summit and the 11th East Asia Summit in Vientiane in the Laotian capital.
Mr Duterte’s visit to Vientiane to attend the Asean Summits was his first overseas visit as head of state, but his visit has been overshadowed by how the White House cancelled a bilateral meeting with United States President Barack Obama at the sidelines of the event.

“We wish to enhance our physical and digital connectivity; to see greater people to people links; to strengthen our institutional linkages; and, to leverage the modern interconnected world for the mutual benefit of all our people”, Modi said. “The Asean leaders will also exchange views on regional and worldwide issues”, he added.
The meeting between the leaders of the U.S. and the Philippines has been mutually agreed upon to be moved to a later date, said a statement issued by Mr Duterte’s office on Tuesday.
On the same day, the Asean + 1 Summit will also begin with the convening of the 19th Asean-China Summit to commemorate the 25th annivesary of the Asean-China Dialogue Relations.
During the 28th summit, ASEAN Leaders adopted the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025.
The EAS is the premier leaders-led forum in the Asia-Pacific.
On Wednesday, Park will attend the South Korea-ASEAN summit and the ASEAN-plus-three summit, which involves South Korea, China and Japan.

“During the summit, the leaders will also issue a Joint Leaders Statement on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)”.
