United States President Barack Obama has praised Malaysia’s efforts in setting up the Regional Digital Counter-Messaging Communication Centre to curb Daish influence and propaganda, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

In the President’s Declaration on the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits, the ASEAN leaders emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, stability, maritime and aviation security, safety and freedom in the region, peacefully addressing disputes on the basis of worldwide law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, seriously implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and soon forming a Code of Conduct in the East Sea. There was no reference during the talks to a recent ruling by an arbitration court in The Hague that invalidated China’s claims to the waterway and has incensed Beijing.
The ministry’s spokesman told reporters in Manila the pictures were made public because China’s ambassador to the Philippines had denied there was any new activity there.
Through the pictures, Najib said Duterte questioned the human rights bandied about by the U.S. while numerous people in Philippine were killed by the USA army.
“The Chinese side has maintained a number of coast guard vessels for law enforcement patrols in the waters of Huangyan Dao”, the embassy said, referring to the Chinese name for Scarborough Shoal. “That’s why as part of my rebalance of American Foreign policies in the Asian Pacific, I have deepened our engagement with the nations of South East Asia and with ASEAN as an institution”, he added.
China has over the past year alarmed other claimants, and outside powers such as the United States and Japan, by re-claiming land on several disputed reefs through dredging, and building air fields and port facilities.
The statement was adopted on the sidelines of a series of summits involving ASEAN in Vientiane, the Laotian capital.

This meeting is crucial as the members have now agreed for a single tier system of tariff relaxation from the earlier three-tier system, sources said.
