Ashley Young: ‘Manchester United must beat Wolfsburg’
Young may not be Neymar, but he has been very effective under Van Gaal when he has been given his opportunities.

“I know I have to play well for United to have a chance and then you hope the England manager comes knocking on the door”, he said. I will never think about retiring from England until I retire from football completely at club level. The manager wants competition and he wants to rotate. I had a slight problem with my achilles.
“We have fantastic players here”.
The 30-year-old has shown his worth, though, with a few impact substitute appearances, not least in United’s 3-1 win against Liverpool earlier this month when he replaced Memphis at half-time and helped change the game.
He has been ignored by Hodgson ever since despite emerging as one of Manchester United’s most impressive and consistent performers under Louis van Gaal.
Ashley Young is refusing to give up on an England recall and says he will always make himself available for his country.
“We’re doing well in the league but there is a long way to go, so we just take each game as it comes.”
I know my ability.
The United attacker, who had a brilliant first season under Van Gaal, has struggled to get a start this season, and only managed one due to injuries suffered by other players. Whenever I am called upon I will go out and do that. “It’s a different role for me compared to left wing or left midfield, there’s more of the defensive side to think about but I’m capable of doing that”. “I felt comfortable and, as I said, if the manager picks me to play there I’ll do everything I need to do”. Every player is in there to do a job. “He has that headache”.
The Red Devils are in good form heading into the clash with the German giants, after recent wins over Southampton, Sunderland and Ipswich Town – all of which have come after their loss to PSV Eindhoven in the first game of the Champions League group stage.
Young has also got back into favour at Old Trafford, with the manager willing to use him as part of the front three, as a striker or on the wings.
“It was a disappointing start to the European campaign especially the possession and chances we had in Eindhoven that really was disappointing”. “We have been winning games and we need to keep the run going”.

“A club like United wants to fight for everything we’re involved in – the league, the Champions League and both the cup competitions”.
