Asking Siri to charge phone prompts iPhone to call the emergency services

Well, this is slightly alarming. No further questions are asked, and users have five seconds to end the call. And secondly, telling Siri “charge my phone 100%” prompts the phone to call emergency services.

Mashable can confirm this result, but we urge you not to try this at home. There is no official word on what the cause of this is but the two possibilities are that it’s either a bug or a hidden function that allows you to call the police in an emergency. That’s to say that no matter how much of a charge you’d want on the iPhone or iPad, Siri obviously can’t help you.

Now, we highly recommend you don’t do this, as making unneeded calls to emergency services is not only a bad thing to do, but it’s also illegal in some cases. Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment. But since the feature isn’t advertised by Apple and doesn’t seem like it would be stumbled on innocently, it’s just as likely to be a bug with the software.

There’s a theory floating around that this is a security feature that Apple has built in to let users call the authorities during a burglary or such dire circumstances.
