Assam has a 126-member legislative assembly.

While the disgruntled workers of the AGP floated a new front christened AGP Regional Forum, the BJP workers unhappy over the alliance have formed a new party, Trinamool BJP.

When asked about the disgruntlement among a section of party workers over the seat sharing arrangement with BJP, the AGP president said the dissent was receding and appealed to all workers and leaders to ensure unbridled vote transfer between the two parties to make the alliance successful.

Grassroots workers of the ruling party also set a deadline till Thursday to replace the candidature of Joy Prakash Das by giving the ticket to Buragohain, failing which they have threatened to desert the Congress en masse.

“There are differences over some issues. Sarbananda Sonowal, who is BJP’s chief ministerial candidate- also Union minister of sports -has also not been able to perform”.

“People of Assam have given three opportunities to the Congress. However, the party had failed to fulfil the aspirations of the common people of the state”. “Entire episode is a political conspiracy and has been done at the behest of a former colleague who recently joined the BJP to defame me and my party”, Hussain said.

Going by the list, Sarma said the Congress will get even lesser seats in the polls than the BJP had expected it would get.

Agriculture Minister Rockybul Hussain told reporters today the officials who raided his house yesterday said they had come in connection with complaints against his wife. Congress will form the government on its own and in case they fall short of numbers, he would take AIUDF’s support, said Gogoi.

Gogoi filed his papers on the last day for filing nominations for first of the two-phased assembly elections on April 4 after conducting a road show in Titabor town.
