Aston Martin DB11 Volante Officially Teased; Launch In 2018

Aston Martin released three new pictures of the company’s DB11 Volante test mule with the words “From the creators of DB11, Aston Martin Lagonda LTD, Opening Spring 2018”, printed along the car’s side. And while the teaser images don’t show the front of the DB11 Volante, or for that matter what the vehicle looks like with its roof down, it shouldn’t look drastically different than the DB11 coupe.

On the inside, we can expect the same luxuriously-upholstered interior as the coupe. The remainder of the design remains largely the same with the sharp looking vents behind front wheels, C-shaped tail lights, dual exhausts and the razor sharp lines encompassing the styling.

Under the hood, expect the same 5.2-litre V12, pumping out 600 horsepower and 516 lb. -ft. of torque. An eight-speed automatic gearbox will drive power to the rear wheels.

The frantic pace isn’t slowing either, with official spy shots (since when did they become a thing?) of the DB11 Volante “leaked” by Aston Martin.

Aston Martin revealed plans in February 2016 to build its new crossover vehicle on a 90-acre site formerly used by the Ministry of Defence.

With the extra strengthening needed for a convertible version, the Volante will be heavier than the 1,800kg DB11 coupe, which means the 0-62mph time will increase, up to around 4.3 seconds.

Launching a new DB11-based Volante, outside of widening and refreshing the brand’s range, will also give Aston a rival to the likes of the Ferrari California T, Bentley Continental GTC and Mercedes-AMG SL65.
