Aston Villa players given police escort

Aston Villa’s playing squad were given a police escort as they left Adams Park yesterday after being held to a 1-1 draw at League Two outfit Wycombe Wanderers.

There’s a bit to go in this one but with a Premier League manager strangely speaking about a transfer target in public, it now seems that a Debuchy move to Villa seems more likely than not. Garde said that he had already spoken to his compatriot Arsene Wenger over the possibility of bringing Debuchy to the club, after the player has been forced to watch from the sidelines from the Emirates for the majority of this season.

Gabby Agbonlahor (back) and Carlos Sanchez (hamstring) are unlikely to make to feature, but are edging closer to returns.

Wycombe were humbled by Morecambe in their previous game but fully deserved their replay, enhancing the reputation of manager Gareth Ainsworth who has built his team on a shoestring. But during this transfer window as I have said, January is not the best time to do things because it is very hard for many reasons.

“Some players say “I would like to work with you” but they prefer to wait”. Fan-owned Wycombe are set for a massive FA Cup replay match at Villa Park and have certainly deserved the windfall that will come with that.

Taking on the Citizens in his first game since replacing the sacked Tim Sherwood, Garde guided the Villans to a morale boosting 0-0 draw at Villa Park.

“They also care about the project that we present to them”.

“So for them to have the respect to do that for my boys, I’d just say thank you”.

“It’s too early. It won’t help me or anybody to go forward to make any more comments about that today”.

Instead, the rest of the match exposed Villa for what they are: A side low on confidence, conceding all sorts of goals and so devoid of attacking threat that there were only sporadic moments when they put their fourth-tier opponents under sustained pressure.

Attracting players to a club that looks destined to drop out of the Premier League could be hard though.

“They are not saying they don’t like the project and they are not afraid of it but they are waiting for better opportunities before saying yes to me”.

“We can’t give Villa any encouragement”, claimed Millen.
