Astros’ Fiers no-hits Dodgers
Houston Astros righty Mike Fiers – recently acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers – no-hit the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It is the first no-hitter thrown by a pitcher in a season in which he was traded since the Rangers’ Jim Bibby blanked the A’s on July 30, 1973. It was the franchise’s first no-hitter in roughly 22 years. This time, Fiers served up one cutter and four fastballs, none more than 91 miles per hour, the last of which fooled Turner into a swing and miss for strike three.
Jake Marisnick and Evan Gattis both hit solo home runs, and Marisnick made a catch right up against the wall in the ninth inning to preserve the no-hitter. Born and raised in Houston, the first-year president of baseball operations accompanied the team for the second leg of its three-city trip that will conclude next week in Cincinnati. Trevor May pitched a flawless eighth, and Kevin Jepsen closed out the ninth for his sixth save and first for Minnesota.
Adrian Gonzalez watched from the railing of the Dodgers dugout as Fiers was engulfed by his teammates against the backdrop of fireworks exploding outside of the retractable-roof stadium. “I feel good about having him on our roster”.
It took a career high 134 pitches and 10 strikeouts, but he becomes the fifth pitcher this season to achieve the feat.
Baltimore was 51-1 when leading after seven innings, and O’Day (5-2) entered with a 1.15 ERA and a run of 11 straight scoreless appearances. Fiers joins Chris Heston, Cole Hamels, Max Scherzer, and Hisashi Iwakuma who have thrown no-hitters this season and we still have more than a month left. “I wanted to win 3-0 with a no-hitter, and we did”. Pederson followed Hernandez to the plate and took three straight balls, just the second 3-0 count of the game on a Dodgers hitter, but Fiers battled back and struck out the slumping rookie with a perfectly placed 89-mph fastball on the inside corner. The Giants are just 1.5 games behind the Dodgers and seem to be trending in the right direction. Puig was hitting. 333 with two homers and six RBI in seven games before getting hurt, and he owns a. 360 average in 18 road games during interleague play.
The Cardinals, who still have the best record in the majors at 77-44, committed three errors in the fifth while pitcher John Lackey (10-8) allowed four hits, a walk and a wild pitch in that frame.

Cueto allowed six earned runs and 13 hits, striking out three before leaving after six innings.
