Left-hander Dallas Keuchel moved one victory shy of matching the franchise record for consecutive home wins as the Houston Astros defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-1 on Friday night at Minute Maid Park.

Ian Kinsler is batting.

Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is off the disabled list and back in the starting lineup. Keuchel has also allowed just 10 combined runs in his last four starts.

The Tigers threatened in the fifth inning when a broken-bat double by Jose Iglesias followed by a single from Anthony Gose left runners at first and third with one out in the inning.

“You are facing one of the best pitchers in the league”, said Cabrera, who was 0 for 3 with a walk.

Jose Altuve and Chris Carter had RBI’s in the game.

“His timing isn’t ideal, but that’s to be expected”, Ausmus said.

The Astros trailed entering the fifth inning before scoring three runs, capped Lowrie’s double to take a 3-1 lead.

“With Keuchel we knew it would be tough, and it was”, Ausmus said.

That was enough support for Astros’ ace lefty Dallas Keuchel, who is now 11-0 at Minute Maid Park this season.

Keuchel struck out Rajai Davis and then induced a weak grounder back to the mound from Kinsler to escape that inning unscathed. Altuve led the way by going 2-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base and Lowrie led with two RBI.

After the Astros squandered scoring opportunities in the first and third innings, they delivered against Tigers right-hander Alfredo Simon in the fifth.

Houston’s Carlos Gomez had a hard night, going 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. “So it’s something that you have to stop”. Detroit, which was 15-20 without Cabrera, optioned LHP Kyle Ryan to Triple-A Toledo, where Ryan will work out of the rotation…. Simon is 2-0 with a 1.10 ERA and 10 strikeouts in his career against the Astros. He has been out since May 24.

Astros: OF George Springer (broken right wrist) was cleared to resume baseball activities on Friday, but the Astros still aren’t sure when he’ll come off the disabled list.

“There’s no magic potion to try to figure it out”, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said of the Astros’ home and road splits.

Right-hander Danny Darwin won 13 consecutive decisions between the 1989 and 1990 seasons at the Astrodome. “It’s a triple watch every day”.
