Astros’ Valbuena has setback, could be out for season

To make room on the roster for Gurriel, Tyler White has been optioned to Triple-A.

The Astros are now 63-60 and sit in third place in the American League West, trailing the Texas Rangers by 9.5 games.

Valbuena is batting.258 with 11 homers and 31 RBIs in 86 games.

In 15 total games – Gurriel played two with the Astros’ Gulf Coast League affiliate – he hit.250 with six extra-base hits. “We’ve bounced him around the country”. So to add him to this group is certainly exciting for us.

Gurriel, 32, signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract last month with the Astros after making rounds in private workouts with the Dodgers and Mets among other teams. Since joining the Astros, he’s seen time both at third base and in left field. But there is now an answer, Gurriel will join the Astros on Sunday against the Orioles.

Said Astros second baseman Jose Altuve: “We have real high expectations for him. I can’t wait to play next to him”.
