Asus Zenfone Max Pro hands-on: New contender for mid-range smartphone king crown

The Max Pro M1 is the first ASUS smartphone that will offer stock Android UI to its consumers. Dimensions are 159x76x8.61mm and weight is 180 grams. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro flaunts a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, meaning it’s an 18:9 display panel. The primary camera uses the Omnivision 16880 sensor and supports Phase Detection AF. The phone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 2GB via a microSD card. The slim and elegant size and 2.5D-curved front edges make the ZenFone Max Pro exceptionally comfortable to hold, with significantly less bulk than a standard 6-inch phone.

At the back, it has vertical dual camera setup and LED flash below.

As of right now, we can only speculate about the features and specification of the device. The display offers large viewing angles and looks good.

Asus has also claimed that the Max Pro M1 will be 50 percent faster than the leading smartphones in this segment with a 1.54x performance boost over Snapdragon 625.

Interestingly, Asus has forsaken its ZenUI in favor of pure Android 8.1 and is promising at least two major OS updates. Still, the company is giving few social media and utility apps pre installed.

The device comes with Android 8.1 pure Android operating system. But overall experience is pretty smooth. It has Adreno 509 GPU for graphics quality as well letting users enjoy seamless video and online games. The phone comes with 32 GB storage. The storage is, therefore, expandable up to 2TB. On the rear, the two cameras are a 13.0-megapixel one with f/2.2 aperture and a 5.0-megapixel one for picking up depth of field information, while on the front is an 8.0-megapixel shooter. For selfie lovers, the company has provided an 8MP selfie camera with dedicated LED flash.

If the report is to be believed, the phone will come with an 18:9 display with a dual camera setup. The phone can record 4K videos using the rear camera while the front camera is limited to 1080P.

Question: How is the audio experience of Zenfone Max Pro M1? . Sound is loud but nothing I could call exceptional. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back and yes, face unlock is promised too, although it is not available yet at the time of release. It packs a 5000mAh battery, much more than the competition and therefore delivers more juice than them. Heavier usage will definitely see some reduced battery times.

Overall, it’s safe to say that when it comes to design, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 doesn’t have anything remarkable to offer.

Until now, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was undoubtedly the best phone under 20K in India, powered by the powerful Snapdragon 636 and packed with superb specifications.

Asus, with the Zenfone Max Pro, is taking a different approach towards to the budget segment of the Indian smartphone market. Also, note that the Zenfone Max Pro M1’s global launch has happened in India.
