Denver police say a gunman shot a woman before apparently killing himself at a downtown office building on Tuesday afternoon. The victim is in critical condition.

The suspect appeared to specifically target the victim, Schepman said, adding that the building was searched and secured and no further threats were found.
The suspect, Mickey Russell, 58, is the victim’s estranged husband. The shooter, described as mentally unstable, had been barred from the Chaffee County airport for making comments, although Saunier did not say what those comments were.
A shooting was reported in downtown Denver.
The shooting happened at the Alliance Center at 1536 Wynkoop St., a building that houses several environmental organizations and provides shared workspaces.
A police source said they believe that the man died from a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A shooting in the 1500 block of Wynkoop Street closed a stretch of LoDo on Tuesday afternoon.
Police swarmed the area and encouraged residents and business owners to shelter in place. She had filed for divorce from the shooter in April, according to Saunier.
Jake Williams, executive director of Healthier Colorado, which has offices in the building, told Crimesider he was on the third floor of the building when he heard a woman screaming and felt a “rumbling” on the floor beneath him. “They mentioned there was a shooter on the second floor, at which point I chose to follow them outside and get out of there”, he said.
The shooting drew a heavy police presence to the heart of downtown Denver.

The area will be blocked off for a long time and will be a major headache for people getting off work and trying to go home. Please see our terms of service for more information.
