Al-Shabab, the jihadist terror group, told Al Jazeera it was responsible for the attack.

The first blast happened near an entrance to the base, which is beside Mogadishu’s main airport, and the second at a nearby checkpoint manned by Somali government forces.

“Neither the Somali authorities nor the United Nations will be deterred from moving forward”, said Keating.

At least 10 people were killed in twin explosions near the airport in Mogadishu, Somalia security officials said on Tuesday.

People arriving on worldwide flights said the blasts shattered windows in the airport buildings.

Worldwide organizations have voiced concern following Tuesday’s twin suicide attack in Somalia at the African Union (AU) peacekeeping base, claiming the lives of at least 14 people. “For instance, when we have return convoys, we inform AMISOM of the convoys, the routes they will be taking, the number of vehicles, the number of people”.

According to local journalists, two suicide bombs went off simultaneously.

The group has been pushed out of most of the main towns it once controlled, but analysts say it remains a potent threat.

“These attacks must be stopped”.
