At Least 25 Reported Injured in Explosion in New York City

The New York Fire Department have confirmed 29 people have been injured, one of them seriously after an explosion in New York Saturday night.

A law enforcement source told CNN that the explosion occurred around 8:40 p.m. ET – about 30 minutes before Trump took the stage here – at 23rd Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan.

Several were injured and taken to local hospitals, the NYPD said.

A pipe bomb exploded in a New Jersey shore town Saturday shortly before thousands of runners were to participate in a charity 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors, authorities said.

A law enforcement source said an initial investigation suggested the explosion occurred in a dumpster but the cause was still undetermined.

“We believe it was intentional”, de Blasio said. The Orangetheory Fitness Chelsea video showed the damage and reverberation caused by the explosion. “Early indications are this was an intentional act”.

As seen in the above image, firefighters gathered on West 27th Street and 7th Avenue in NY as authorities searched for a secondary device seen in the area.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton told reporters she had been in touch with NY officials. “The president will be updated as additional information becomes available”, the official added.

Clinton said she had been in touch with various New York City officials and called the incident a “bombing”.

None of the injuries is life-threatening but one is serious, New York’s fire commissioner said.

Trump did not return to the reports of an explosion in NY during the rest of his speech.

Massachusetts State Police said they were receiving updates on the incidents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and intelligence officials and saw no connection with Massachusetts.

He says the response by police who swarmed the area was “aggressive” but “controlled”. I was walking outside toward 23rd between 5th and 6th. “But then we realized something was wrong”.

This annual meeting – held more than two miles from the site of the explosion in Chelsea – is traditionally a challenging time for NY, as many roads are shut down and the heavy security leads to increased traffic.

The street is not normally the site of heavy foot traffic, he says.
